Hey all, I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and this is YouniversityTV, where we put you, that's right you, in Youniversity. Today, we're bringing you a warm southern welcome from Huntington College, a private four year, liberal arts school, affiliated with a Methodist church. Huntington College is located in the historic city of Montgomery, Alabama, which is the state capital and very well known for its history, from Civil War to Civil Rights. You know we're minutes away from the Civil Rights Museum, minutes away from where Rosa Parks her first steps onto the bus. So we're richly grounded in history. Montgomery is home to four residential colleges, and offers a wealth of culture and entertainment for its residents. Right down the street from the campus, it includes Cafe Louisa, Tomatinos [assumed spelling], Sinclair's, also check a flick at the Independent Capri Movie Theater for some artsy films. There's a Shakespeare festival down the road. They have a big theater there. They put on performances. Sprawl out in the sunshine in the Huntington green. It looks a little like Central Park, that may be because it was designed by the family who came up with the vision for the massive New York Park. And the national mall in Washington, D.C. Huntington College enrolls just under 1,000 students, with a ratio of 50 to 50, male to female. We interact so well together. There's no exclusive groups on campus. There's a very wide variety. You have the great wide, you have the forest, you have the normal kids, you have the all right is this, we're so, we're so different. Admission to Huntington College is based on several factors, including high school GPA and course work, college prep classes and SAT or ACT scores. The average GPA for the most recent freshman class is a 3.15, with an average ACT score of 22 and an average combined SAT of 1039. [ Music ] Looking for a student who has strong leadership experience, who has been involved at the school level and maybe even the community level. And service projects. [ Music ] Tuition for all students, including room and board, runs just under 27,000 dollars per year. Students when they come to Huntington, they participate in something that we call levelized tuition. Levelized tuition means that what students start paying their freshman year of college is going to be the same tuition rate that they're locked in for all four years that they go to school here. So no tuition increases from year to year when you come to Huntington College. Huntington College offers bachelor of arts degrees in more than 30 areas. Students also have access to nine major professional programs. In fact, 88 percent of graduates who've applied are accepted into medical school, and 96 percent into law school. Some of the most popular majors include business administration, biology, human performance, accounting, athletic training and political science. The labs that are really cool for most of the students are things like the zoology labs, where they get to do the dissection and work with skeletons and things like that. Huntington College has a plan for you. Your tuition covers much more than books and a top-notch education. As part of the Huntington plan, each student receives a laptop and an opportunity to study abroad. You can go through all the, the countries, and it's a great opportunity. You can back to Germany. England. France. Scotland. Ireland. I'm going to go to Canada this year, and on the group, so you can choose where you want to go. There's a different menu of possible trips to take. With an average class size of just 16, and a low 15 to one student faculty ratio, students have great access to their professors. Our faculty is definitely one of the strongest points at Huntington. They're involved in every aspect of our lives. They have out parent's names and numbers. They have our cell phone numbers. We know folks by name. We know a little bit about their business and what's going on and how, how things are going. Our students here, if you don't go to class, they call you, where were you today. Are you sick? Do you need soup? It's a real family environment. 14 Hawks men's to women's athletics teams compete at the division three level with 11 teams competing at the Great South Athletic Conference. Athletics is a, a huge part of Huntington and it's growing by the year. Our student population is about 50 percent athletes. We're growing in every sport. We have new recruits coming in every year, and they bring just athletics along. Play such a cool aspect to the college. They, they play such a huge part of student life, and, and student involvement. Students that wish to live on campus can choose from three residence halls in either single or double occupancy, all of which feature modern living spaces. Sorority sisters aren't alone in Pratt Hall. The Red Lady is said to haunt the fourth floor. [ Ghostly sounds ] Martha is one of 13 Alabama ghosts documented in a book by Huntington alum. She is known to blow a cool breeze. [ Wind sounds ] And even mysteriously open and close doors. [ Screaming sounds ] [ Doors shutting ] Students can choose from 50 clubs and organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic or spiritual organizations, and performing arts programs.
