 Iona College is only a 20-minute train ride north of Manhattan in the suburban city of New Rochelle, New York. The city sits on the Long Island Sound, hence earning its nickname the Queen City of the Sound. New Rochelle has been home to Jay Leno, Jay Tore, Norman Rockwell, an Iona Alum, plus songwriter of American Pie, Don McClain. 

 And was also home to the famous writer, Thomas Pain, whose cottage can be found just a quarter mile down the road. Iona sits on a beautiful 35-acre campus where visitors are greeted with beautiful flower arrangements, lush greenery, and age-old trees. 

 Iona College is a medium sized Catholic college, founded in 1940 by the Edmond Rice Congregation of Christian Brothers. 

 The undergraduate population of Iona is approximately 3200 students. Diversity wise, we've got 47 percent male students, and 53 percent female students. The students come from over 40 different states, and over 35 countries in the world. 

 Iona's looking for students who possess a solid 3.0 GPA, an SAT score between 1060 and 1260, or an ACT of 23 to 28 or better. 

 Essays are very, very important part of the application process, as are extracurricular activities, sports, community service. 

 The costs for tuition for all students totals around 26,000 dollars, with an additional 11,000 for room and board. Iona's meal plan consists of on-campus and off-campus use. A portion of the meal plan can go towards the food court, cafeteria, or either of the Starbucks on campus. 

 Now here's the really fun part, students can use their meal card all up and down North Avenue. There are restaurants, delis, and there's even a 24-hour diner. Hungry? 

 Matter of fact I am.

 There is no institution in New York State, and probably very few in the Northeast of the United States, that has the whole conglomeration of accreditations that we do. 

 Iona offers over 40 majors and 30 minors as well as masters degrees and postmaster certificates in a variety of programs. Students favorite majors are mass communications, finance, education, marketing, criminal justice, and psychology. Iona also has an honors program for outstanding students, which recently produced a road scholar. 

 We have a beautiful new radio station on campus. High tech, state of the art, brand new on a political radio. And that is another hidden gem on campus. Same thing goes with the newspaper which is award winning. I think the TV station, which is really flourishing in the last few years. 

 Students receive close personal attention from professors, which average classroom sizes around 25, and a student to faculty ratio of 13 to one. Most professors at Iona also have earned the highest degree in their field. And bring with them extensive professional experience. 

 I think we have a wonderful faculty, can I just say that? I think we have a great faculty. We have a young faculty. We have a very energetic faculty. Totally committed to their disciplines and their students. 

 The students will actually get to know their faculty members. Which I think is extremely important. I think there should be that give and take. I don't think, you know, faculty should be way up here and the students way down here. 

 Iona is a small campus. It allows each student to have that one on one, like type of a relationship with your professors. So that plays a key role. 

 I refer to them as my kids. And I worry about them. And I, I try to make sure that they get the best possible education that Iona can, can give. 

 This is Killian, the [inaudible] of 22 NCAA Division One sports teams. 

 Their athletic program is associated with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. 

 The men's cross country program has won 17 consecutive match championships, six Northeast Regional titles, and a record second place finish at the NCAA championship. 

 Iona students can choose to live in one of the five co-ed residence halls. Students can also find off-campus housing close to the college. 

 Living here as a freshman was so much fun. Our entire floor hung out all the time. Facilities are really nice. We have our own bathroom. 

 IC offers more than 90 active student-run clubs and organizations. Including media groups, fraternities, and sororities. 

 We use New York City as a campus backyard for both academic and social activities for our students. 

 When not studying, students head to downtown [inaudible] shows entertainment complex which features movie theaters, bowling, ice skating, shopping, and restaurants. 

 There are so many opportunities at Iona, like internships in New York City, study abroad programs, and the Black Friars program, which sends two students every year to study at Oxford. 

 The thing that was really important about this school is the teachers have a lot of ties with people in high places in different companies. My teacher in particular, Dr. Avery, she knows a lot of people in police departments, in government jobs. 

 We have a student right now who just finished a great internship with a member of the House of Representatives. And they've asked her to stay on. We have another who just finished an internship with a senator, they asked her to take permanent job. So these are students who are committed to public service in particular. 

 Iona alumni include leaders in many fields. In fact, the current chairman and CEO of AOL, and the current president and CEO of Mesick are both Iona alums. So if you're looking for a mid-sized college, where you can integrate your spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical belief into your learning experience, Iona College may be the perfect match for you.
