Shanna: Depending on what you do, a nutritionist workday will vary.

Michelle Parente: I don't have a typical day. Every day is a little different at what I do, but I, I, on one day, I may go and do, I may do some office work because I have a home-based office, and then go to a company or a business, you know, where I will do a, a presentation. I do lunch and learns where I'll have a group of people sitting in front of me.

Shanna: To get the scoop on food, you'll need to get a Bachelor's Degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, or a related area. Licensing and certification are also required.

Michelle Parente: What you need to do is complete a 900 hour internship prior to sitting for a national examination for registered dietitians.

Shanna: Working for sports teams, supermarkets, wellness programs. Those are just some of the areas a nutritionist can work in.

Michelle Parente: Used in the prison system. We're used in hospitals as managers of the kitchen. We're trained in food service. We're trained in clinical nutrition. We're trained in economics. We're trained in management. So we have a, a diverse amount of training which really just opens us up to many different areas of employment.

Shanna: Due to the popular trend of eating healthy, the need for nutritionists is expected to grow.

Michelle Parente: There are many jobs available out there. I think it's, it's an area of, of, I think it's an area that's increasing at, at a large, at a high rate. It's just, it's just really blowing up out there. You know, I think that this is an area and a field that's just going to because more and more promising as health care reform takes place.

Shanna: What kind of greens can a nutritionist expect to make?

Michelle Parente: You can make anywhere from probably 40,000 to 150,000. Maybe more. And maybe not even work full time doing it. It just really depends on what kind of business person you are.

Shanna: It's helpful as a nutritionist to be able to analyze data and work well with people. Michelle also suggests these qualities.

Michelle Parente: It helps to be a pleasant person, to have a positive attitude, and to, I guess, be a little altruistic like that.

Shanna: Now that I've got all the facts, there could be a career change in my future. I'm Shanna for YouniversityTV. See you guys next time.
